Some of the popular technologies include:
- Non invasive cavity detection
- Specialized dental lasers for treating both hard and soft tissue
- Air abrasion instruments that can replace traditional drilling
- High Powered magnification to assure increasing accuracy
- Porcelain fabrication methods that eliminate or reduce the need for tooth preparation
- Improved bonding cements and techniques
- Hybrid antibiotic alternatives to traditional Peridodontal Disease treatment
Cavity Detection: Scientific Accuracy
Diagnodent is a caries detection system that has received numerous technology awards since it was first introduced. The smallest of cavities can be detected at the earliest possible stage, before invasive treatment (entering dentin layer) is required. Some practices use a cavity dye to detect caries.
Laser Dentistry
Lasers are becoming an almost expected technology of any cosmetic or reconstructive dentistry practice. They can be used for treating both hard and soft tissues that involves little or no pain (by virtue of laser physics), provide levels of accuracy that surpasses traditional treatments and promote a tissue healing process that begins almost immediately.
Proven to be one of the most healthful technologies for gum treatments, shaping, contouring, etc., that typify full mouth makeover dentistry.
Air Abrasion versus Invasive Drilling
Abrasion dentistry works on the principle of high speed particulate matter being aimed at a treatment area. The generation of heat and sensations of vibration are all but eliminated. A precise technology that enables our doctors to remove only what needs to be removed... with pin point accuracy.
The need for local anesthetics or sedation medications are significantly reduced for most patients... if not totally eliminated. In our office, the renowned Diagnodent Air Abrasion system is routinely used.
Micro-thin Porcelain Veneer Laminates
Most certainly one of the most popular advancements in makeover dentistry. Rembrandt and DenMat pefected a porcelain fabrication process that can eliminate all of the invasive and excessive tooth preparation that is required for older, traditional veneers.
Addressing the growing problems of tooth sensitivity and failing veneers, DenMat dental laboratories created the Lumineer product line. Read our Lumineer page for more details.
Bonding Chemistry: Leak Proof Bonding Agents and Techniques
Bonding failures are common factors that lead to leakage... a concept where the bonding agent itself fails and bacteria eventually seeps through and causes new decay problems.
Reconstructive procedures require a perfect match between the physical characteristics of the bonding surface, the material being bonded (e.g., crown versus veneer), the location of the restoration (anterior versus posterior), moisture issues and the type of bonding agent.
There is no "one cement fits all" type of concept. As such, advancements in specialized bonding agents are adopted rapidly in our office.
Non Invasive Periodontal Disease Treatment
More recently, treatment alternatives for traditional Periodontal Disease treatment have been developed that make treatments seem as effortless as using home teeth bleaching trays.
Specially formulated medicated gel compounds have been created to directly treat the affected tissue areas, initiating a healing process that begins almost immediately.
